Regulatory agencies have expanded the list of prohibited coloring agents in hair dyes over the past five years, demanding updated analytical methods to protect public health. This study developed an optimized HPLC method for simultaneous determination of newly banned hair dye ingredients. A 0.5% ascorbic acid solution in 20% methanol served as extraction solvent to prevent oxidation of susceptible target analytes, achieving excellent recoveries of 87.95– 103.70%. An SPE clean-up procedure minimized matrix interferences from complex cosmetic formulations under DAD detection. Finalized chromatographic conditions enabled efficient separation of all analytes within a short run time of 25 min at a detection wavelength of 230 nm. An advanced LC-MS/MS method then ensured definitive identification and eliminated false-positive results, qualitatively confirming HPLC screening outcomes based on precise precursor-to-product ion transitions. Together, this integrated analytical framework offers a reliable and highly reproducible approach for routine surveillance of commercial cosmetics under evolving regulatory standards.
