Kalopanax septemlobus (Thunb.) Koidz., a deciduous tree belonging to the Araliaceae family and widely distributed across East Asia, has traditionally been used to treat rheumatism, diabetes, and inflammatory disorders. In this study, we employed an untargeted metabolomic approach that combines liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) with integrated molecular networking. This method allowed for a comprehensive annotation and visualization of the chemical constituents of young leaves and twigs of K. septemlobus, facilitating the rapid classification of structurally related groups of fatty acids, terpenoids, flavonoids, alkaloids, and phenylpropanoids based on MS/MS spectral similarity with both experimental and public mass databases. As a result, we annotated 32 chemical constituents with varying compositions present in the extracts of K. septemlobus. Among these, phenolics, terpenoids, and fatty acids were the primary groups of compounds, followed by organic acids, glycosides, flavonoids, and other groups. This integrated strategy offers a systematic framework for accelerating the discovery of bioactive metabolites that underpin the traditional therapeutic applications of K. septemlobus.
