Chronic stress maintains the root cause for significant physiological and neurological changes, and even dysfunction, particularly in the hippocampus. Primarily associated with memory and spatial navigation, the hippocampus is rich in receptors for glucocorticoids (like cortisol), which are released in response to stress. This study aims to investigate the molecular differences in the hippocampal regions of mice in hopes of analyzing the effects of stress and pharmaceutical intervention on hippocampal stress at a molecular and hormonal level. Using advanced imaging and molecular analysis techniques such as MALDI-MSI and FT-ICR-MS, researchers investigated hormone level changes and structural adaptations. SCILs software was used to visualize molecular distributions within hippocampal regions, which showed the group injected with antidepressant had a neuroprotective recovery response along with increased Diacylglycerol / Monoacylglycerol activities. Our findings suggest how stress and pharmacological treatment can induce measurable molecular changes in the brain and contribute to a deeper understanding of hippocampal responses to stress and the molecular pathways influenced by antidepressants.
