Citrus species, belonging to the family Rutaceae, are widely consumed fruits worldwide. Along with vitamin C, they contain various flavonoids and alkaloids known for antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and metabolic regulatory effects. Flavonoids in Citrus species have potential as food ingredients, while alkaloids represent another key class of metabolites contributing to the overall physiological properties of Citrus. Evaluating major bioactive compounds is important for raw material quality standardization and functional validation, yet comparative studies on Citrus species distributed in Korea are limited. In this study, eleven Citrus species were extracted with 70% methanol and analyzed using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-ESI-MS/MS), Two alkaloids, stachydrine and synephrine, and three flavonoids, hesperidin, nobiletin and tangeretin, were used as standard chemicals for the quantification study in Citrus species. Distribution patterns of alkaloids and flavonoids were analyzed across each species using multivariate statistical analyses and were visualized using the molecular networking platform. |
