Plant-insect interactions modulate phytochemical profiles through inducible metabolic response. Here, untargeted metabolomics using LC-MS/MS was applied to profile tissue-specific metabolic changes in <i style="font-family: "Times New Roman", serif; font-size: 12pt; text-indent: 12pt;">Capsella bursa-pastoris</i> under organ-herbivory. Insects with distinct feeding modes and tissue preferences were used to elicit metabolic responses. Metabolite features were analyzed using multivariate statistics (PCA, PLS-DA) and annotated via in silico tools including GNPS, ChemWalker, SIRIUS. Distinct organ-specific shifts were observed: phenylpropanoids increased in leaves upon chewing, while sap feeders suppressed them; glycoside levels increased and fatty amides declined in roots; glucosinolates and isothiocyanates were reduced in seeds; in stems, glucosinolate depletion and isothiocyanate enrichment indicated myrosinase activity. Notably, carbamothioate-class metabolites accumulated specifically in stems following herbivory. |
