Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) can be present in tattoo inks as a result of incomplete combustion processes during manufacturing. Some PAHs are classified as Group 1 carcinogens by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and may pose various health risks if accumulated in the human body. In this study, we present a highly sensitive analytical method for the determination of PAHs in tattoo inks using GC-MS in SIM mode after a simple sample preparation. Eight PAHs, including benzo[a]anthracene, chrysene, benzo[b]fluoranthene, benzo[j]fluoranthene, benzo[k]fluoranthene, benzo[a]pyrene, benzo[e]pyrene, and dibenzo(a,h)anthracene, were selected as target analytes. Benzo[a]pyrene-d12 was used as the internal standard. Analysis were performed using a Shimadzu GCMS-QP2020 NX system. Excellent linearity was achieved in the concentration range of 0.002 mg/L to 0.2 mg/L. The method also demonstrated high accuracy and precision, confirming its reliability and reproducibility. These results suggest that the developed method can be effectively applied for the analysis of PAHs in tattoo inks. |
