Automobile headlamp haze is caused by gaseous compounds that are generated when parts (plastic, rubber, etc.) located inside the headlamp are heated by the main light source of the lamp. Haze is generated from the gases generated from various polymer parts. Therefore, pyrolysis GC/MS (PY-GC/MS) analysis has become essential to determine the chemical composition of the haze. In order to find the parts causing haze of the headlamp, the Py-GC/MS analysis conditions were optimized, and a user library of outgassing components of major parts was constructed using the F-search program. A series of experimental data are required to optimize the experimental conditions of Py-GC/MS, and the DOE (Design of Experiments). Methods in the Minitab program is employed in this study because it is useful in designing efficient experimental plans and obtaining clear results for various factors and set condition levels. The result of this study clearly presents that the F-search user library constructed based on Py-GC/MS data can provide tracking of parts causing headlamp haze.
